A workshop exploring many aspects of the intersections of identity -
and oppression - such as YK Hong's own experience of being Asian and
gender queer. YK will speak to personal integrity and community
accountability; moving toward anti-oppression and multi-issue organizing
as next steps for multi-cultural and diversity work. Hong’s
presentation will address decisions, thoughts and reflections of how we
all can move with greater intentionality through an increasingly complex
world.

Film: Windhorse

This film shows the devastating effects of forty years of Chinese occupation in Tibet and its capital, Lhasa. The largely Tibetan cast and crew risked their lives in order to shoot this film both in Nepal and Tibet, which serve as the backdrop for a story about the lives of three childhood friends separated by the occupation.

Poet Myung Mi Kim

The award-winning poet Myung Mi Kim, a Korean-born American, brings her special poetry to the Mason campus in an evening that features her work. Often cited for poetry that reflects her being a Korean-American, a woman, and a feminist, Myung Mi Kim emigrated at the age of 9 from a homeland occupied by post-war American forces, and then had to learn a new language and adopt a new culture. She is a professor of English at SUNY-Buffalo.

Presentation by Ivy Suriyopas from the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund

The United States considers the term "human trafficking" to refer to the
transport, sale and exploitation of men, women, and children by
traffickers who enrich themselves through the labors of their victims.
This workshop will address the political and social results if human
trafficking in the Asian American community.

with media examples and the documentary, Yellow Peril.
