Spotlight: The Korean-American Heritage

Join us to learn about the history, geography, government and social life in Korea. Plus, delicious Korean food will be served!

APA Heritage Month Keynote Speaker: Luoluo Hong

Dr. LuoLuo (pronounced lo-lo) Hong, the Dean of Students at the University of Wisconsin, is an activist, educator, motivator, comedian, and survivor. Growing up as a shy, quiet daughter of Chinese immigrants, Luoluo Hong never dreamed that she would ever become the victim of sexual assault during her first year of college. Come hear Hong's inspiring story of how she came to make sense of her experiences as a acquaintance rape survivor, as well as how she overcame cultural and institutional racism to finally find her "voice" and life's calling.

Dr. Feng, Associate Professor of English and Women’s Studies at University of Delaware, will present the most prominent shows that feature Asian American actors as science fictions and action-adventures. He will talk about TV programming conventions and the implications for Asian Americans.

Documentary Film: Morning Sun


7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Johnson Center Cinema, Free.
The film attempts in the space of a two-hour documentary film to create an inner history of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (c.1964-1976). It provides a multi-perspective view of a tumultuous period as seen through the eyes—and reflected in the hearts and minds—of members of the high-school generation that was born around the time of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. This will be followed by a Q&A session with Producer, Carma Hinton.
